BN nailing itself into its coffinPosted: May 5, 2008
This article sums up quite well what Barisan Nasional is doing. I have nothing much to add to what is already written. It’s all been well said.
Buying nails for the coffin
It has often been given out by BN leaders that this country practises democracy. These clueless leaders do not know what makes a country truly democratic — rule of law, not by law, freedom of speech, freedom of the print and electronic media, human rights, independent institutions such as the civil service, judiciary, ACA, Election Commission, Registrar of Societies, the right of dissent and assembly etc. Draconian laws such as the ISA, OSA, Universities and University Colleges Act, the destruction of all independent institutions and the police acting as tools of the BN have destroyed the foundations of our democratic country.
On 8 March the tsunami hit BN and the Opposition gained control of five states. In these states files containing incriminating evidence of corruption and administrative malpractices have either been destroyed or gone missing. The first nail for the BN coffin in the next elections has been bought.
Federal Government commitment and funds for development and tourism promotion projects in the opposition-held states have not been forthcoming. Azalina’s cancellation of promised funding for all tourism promotion projects in the five states adds another nail for the BN coffin. One more nail has been bought for the BN coffin.
Ka Chuan’s plan to bypass the five state governments and provide the funds directly to the JKKK, which comprises discredited and rejected BN officials, adds another nail.
The brutality perpetrated on peaceful marchers and vigil keepers was a major cause of the tsunami that hit the BN on 8 March. If the Inspector-General of Police has not realised it; nothing short of a brain transplant is required to wake him up! The post election Umno-organised demonstrations were given free rein by the police. The Umno demonstrators were treated with kindness, consideration and respect by the police. No water cannon or tear-gas was used on these demonstrators although the demonstrations were “illegal”.
The Inspector-General told a lie when he said in a newspaper interview that there was no necessity to use tear-gas or water-cannon on the Umno demonstrators because they dispersed when the police order was given. The fact is that the Umno demonstrators were very kindly given time to have their say. Can he explain why the Hindraf marchers were denied the same right to hand over roses to whoever they wanted to hand them to? Dr M said the police had become a tool of the BN, and the practice of double standards by the police confirms it.
The cancellation of the publishing permit for Makkal Osai – even though it was later renewed — adds one more nail to the coffin. According to Reporters without Borders in 2007 Malaysia stood at number 124, down from 104 in 2003, in respect of press freedom — something really disgraceful for a country that aspires to attain “developed country” status by 2020!
The BN, especially Umno, has an inexhaustible supply of characters like Najib, keris-kisser Hishammuddin, Nazri, Muhammad Taib, Azalina, Toyo — just to name a few – who have fantastic talent to screw up things by word or deed and thereby cause the BN to self-destruct.
Will the BN ever learn? God save them. The electorate can’t and won’t.

I’m starting to think that maybe BN reps should start reading Aliran too. It’s for their own good.
