Manoharan sworn in while under ISA detentionPosted: May 8, 2008
He’s the one and only state assemblyman to have to wait this long to be sworn in. Today marks exactly two months since he won his seat.
Alas, what was the man to do? He was under ISA detention even BEFORE the elections, and still the people voted for him.

How depressing is this? Here’s a man who’s been voted BY THE PEOPLE to serve the people. And he’s not being allowed to do what he’s supposed to be doing, simply because he’s in detention. And under the ISA no less.
He was part of Hindraf, the Indian movement that got into trouble with the authorities last year. Something about the Hindraf movement being “terrorist-like”.
I don’t know too much about their movement, but I do believe that the ISA is so totally wrong. So I don’t think that ANYONE should be kept in detention under the ISA. If anything, let the person be brought to court, have a fair trial. At the very least, FIND THE DAMNED EVIDENCE if you’re going to hold someone in detention for something. If the police can’t find it, it’s either there’s no evidence to find, or the police are just resting on their laurels. Either way, it’s not the detainees who should be punished.
Going back to Mano’s case. He’s now officially a state assemblyman. And as all state assemblymen, he’s got a job to do. Staying in Kem Tahanan Kamunting is not going to make doing his job remotely possible.
What the ISA is effectively doing is cutting the people off from their representative. The people now have “lost their voice”. The ISA is now not only unjustly punishing Mano and the other ISA detainees, the ISA is also punishing the people of Kota Alam Shah.
ISA is not for today’s world, and it has no place in Malaysia. Let Manoharan do his job. Both him and the people who voted for him deserve it. Let the other ISA detainees get a fair trial. They deserve it. Let the ISA be repealed. We, as the rakyat of Malaysia deserve it.
