Najib tells UMNO, BN to changePosted: May 24, 2008
JOHOR BARU, May 24 ─ Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) should have the courage to make changes suitable to the old, middle and new generations, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said last night.
He said the 12th general election had changed the country’s political landscape, which called for the leadership of Umno and the BN to do some soul-searching and identify the factors which led to the party’s failure in several sates.
Najib said people are like a customer, and the customer is king or the customer is always right.
“The first step that should be taken is to open our ears and minds and listen to the people’s voices. Perhaps, there are voices saying we have been in power for far too long and have grown arrogant with power.
“May be for us, it was not true but maybe it was true according to people’s perception,” he said.
Therefore, he said, the present leadership in Umno and the BN should be more humble so that they were always popular with the people.

Wait. How long has it been since GE2008? GE2008 was on March 8, so do the calcs yourself. For me, this “speech” by Najib has been long due. In fact, if he has any brains at all, he should have come to this realisation on the day of the election results! In fact, all those UMNO, BN goons should have too!
But no, it takes them at least 2 months to wake up and realise that they have to listen to us. It takes them 2 months to realise that we hold the power.
Change? What change are you talking about, Mr DPM? How are you going to change, if you are not willing. I believe that all this is just hot air.
Don’t just talk. No point. DO something. If it’s all talk, hey, I also know how to talk-lah, ok?
Besides, it’s funny. By giving this speech, I imagine to UMNO Johor crowd, do you mean to tell me that they don’t know this most fundamental criteria? You mean to tell me that they need to be TOLD before they will open their eyes and ears? You mean to tell me that they have always been living with closed eyes and ears and minds all this while?
You want to tell, tell-lah quietly. Why make a speech that reporters go to? So that they can report on it, and make it look like as if BN and UMNO are really trying to change?
If you’re serious about changing, let us SEE some change. It’s close to the 100-day timeframe from GE2008 already, and we have yet to see ANYTHING close to change from UMNO. All that talk about reform, talk only. All that talk about change, talk only. All that talk about equality, talk only. All that talk about no racial discrimination, talk only.
If talk is all you’re capable of doing, I don’t see why you’re a politician. Because I’m no politician, and I imagine I’m doing it quite well by blogging. Talk, I mean.
I wonder if this is the reason why UMNO Youth leaders have to have blogs before they are qualified to be Youth Leaders. Apparently it’s so that they can “engage” with the younger, IT-savvy generation. But maybe the whole idea is so that they can “talk” all they want, NFA (no further action-lah).
