Permatang Pauh, please go out and votePosted: August 24, 2008
Dear people of Permatang Pauh,
I don’t think I can stress enough how important it is that you go out and vote in the coming by-election on 26 August 2008.
A great thanks to Lim Guan Eng for being so considerate, and announcing a special holiday on the 26th so that all the voters can go out and vote that day. It was a mistake, I believe, for the Elections Commission to announce the Polling day on a working day, but the Chief Minister of Penang has solved that little problem for us.
There is no reason why you should not go out and vote. We all know that for one, it is your responsibility. Do not shirk it. It is, at this point, one of the very few liberties we have left. The power to choose who you want to represent you in Parliament is now, again, in your hands.
Choose wisely. Think not only about who you want to send to Parliament to represent you. Think also about what this person, and the party he represents has promised you. Think also about what this person, and the party he represents, can bring to the nation. You are not about to elect a state assemblyman. You are about to vote for a Member of Parliament, someone who will sit in the House of Representatives and decide the laws of the country. You are about to vote for someone who will eventually have a say in the shape and direction of all other fellow Malaysians.
Do not take this lightly. This, I plead of you. If you support Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat, and their call for justice and a new dawn, please go out and vote. Be careful with how you cross that little piece of paper, because that little piece of paper could determine the outcome of this all-important by-election.
Don’t take anything for granted. Don’t think that Anwar has a large enough support that he doesn’t need yours. If you think that, think again. And again. Until you realise that even ONE extra vote in favour of Anwar is one vote less for Barisan Nasional. One more vote for Pakatan Rakyat, one more vote for a new Malaysia. One more vote for Pakatan Rakyat, one more voice in favour of all that we are fighting for.
Don’t think that Anwar has enough to win comfortably. We don’t want to win with just a “comfortable” majority. We want to win BIG. We want to win with a strong and undeniable majority.
8 March 2008 was a tsunami. We made history.
Now, on 26th August 2008, we have a second chance to make history.
Good people of Permatang Pauh, don’t blow this chance. Come one, come all and vote. Show your support. Voice your support. Cross that little box on that little piece of paper.
This tsunami could be an even bigger one than 8 March. Make it big. Make it unforgettable.
Please, just go out and vote. Every vote counts. Be part of the emergence of a new Malaysia.
